At the age of 4, Victor was, according to his father, accurately humming tunes he heard from the radio. He immediately started piano lessons and embarked on his journey as a musician. During road trips, his parents would put on cassettes of Liszt and Rachmaninoff Piano Concerti. To this day, those memories continue to inspire him. After his family relocated, he began studying with An-Lun Huang, who was more than just a teacher. A composer of orchestral and choral works, Mr. Huang stressed the importance of reading and learning new pieces often.

After enrolling at St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, Victor began his choral training, and eventually his organ training. His roles there included being the pianist for the choir during their performances at Massey Hall and abroad, as well as being the organist for weekly Masses at St. Michael's Cathedral (now Basilica). Since the age of 19, Victor has held the post of Organist and Musical Director at Our Lady of Annunciation Parish in Oak Ridges, and regularly plays for Churches in the GTA for Masses, weddings, and funeral services.

Victor continued his education at the University of Toronto, where he studied under Andrew Markow. One day (playing basketball at the gym), he met two fellow students who shared that they were in the jazz program. Studying classical and sacred music all his life, Victor was naturally intrigued at this new genre. He sat in on a jazz combo rehearsal and immediately fell in love. A year later, Victor applied to the Jazz performance program at UofT and studied with Gary Williamson and David Restivo. He was invited to the NAC Summer Institute in Ottawa where he had a private masterclass with pianist Kenny Barron. He has also performed alongside Canadian jazz icons Terry Clarke and Dave Young. After graduating, Victor went on to perform in the production band and jazz band on the Sapphire Princess cruise ship for four months.

Also during his education at UofT, Victor enrolled in an intro-to-conducting course, taught by Ivars Taurins. Once again, Victor fell in love with this other form of musical expression and immediately started private lessons with Prof. Taurins. He co-founded the Sneak Peek Orchestra with friend and composer Kevin Lau, and went on to produce full symphony concerts in local venues for the next ten years. As conductor, Victor has had the privilege of sharing the stage with the likes of Shauna Rolston, Erika Raum, Rachel Mercer, and the National Arts Orchestra. His instructors include Ivars Taurins, David Briskin, and Kenneth Kiesler.

Out of all his musical ambitions, Victor's greatest love is in classical solo and chamber music. He is in high demand as a collaborative pianist and works as a staff pianist with the Glenn Gould School of Music, the Royal Conservatory of Music, and the University of Toronto. He regularly works with the low brass studios, and has been in recital with world-class trombonists Nitzan Haroz, Joseph Alessi, Colin Williams, Michael Mulcahy, and James Markey, to name a few. Victor has also performed alongside guzheng artists Madam Zhao Wang and Ms. Zhang Shan and been on tour with erhuist George Gao. Currently, Victor is a pianist with the Lincoln Center Stage, playing piano quintets and quartets aboard Holland America cruise ships. Recently, Victor has traveled to New Zealand, Australia, Amsterdam, the Carribean, and Alaska.

As a soloist, Victor made his debut in "Illumination", a double concerto for piano, percussion and strings, written by Kevin Lau. He has since gone on to perform the Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor, and Chopin's Piano Concerto #2 in E minor with orchestra. You can hear a recording of his solo performance of "Seeker" by Kevin Lau.

After recently moving to Aurora Ontario, Victor is excited to expand his private teaching studio. Click here to learn more about Victor’s teaching.
